Reid Lee brings his classical training to his country roots and finds a home in the golden California soul reminiscent of that classic Laurel Canyon Sound, helping to create the new genre of Americana This song is uplifting and hopeful. It features strong vocals over a driving beat and dreamy synth, giving it an upbeat and hopeful feeling. Layered with vocal harmonies and counterpoint over a powerful back beat the song pushes farther into the heavily vocal new Americana Sound. With influences from almost every genre of music you can hear hints of each of the lives he has lived in the music. With everyone from Fleetwood Mac to Ella Fitzgerald, Sara Bareilles to Stevie Wonder as influences this music runs the gamut of styles. Originally from Corpus Christi, Texas, Reid moved away from home at the age of 18 to pursue his career and attend UCLA’s School of Music. Reid started singing at a very early age with his grandfather who was also a musician. The only musical outlet he had at the time, other than rare visits to his grandparents, was school and church choirs, so he threw himself into them with vigor. Not quite sure what to do with his passion Reid saw attending UCLA’s prestigious music school and studying Opera Performance as his way of following the music. Once in Los Angeles, he found that there were many doors open to him and that choosing one was a difficult decision. After graduation, desire to be on stage took him to New York, where he landed the lead in an Off-Broadway show at his very first audition. Reid continued to live and work in New York for the following 4 years, and though he was happy and successful something always felt a bit lacking. It wasn’t until moving back to Los Angeles to go back to Graduate School, that he realized his passion was waiting for him in songwriting. After the sudden loss of his father, Reid read one of his own poems at the funeral; it was then that the spark finally took. He knew that his passion for music and his long history of journaling and writing poems had lead him to this moment. It’s taken Reid a while to finally get back to his original passion, but like so many others out there, he went down a lot of wrong paths just so he would know when he found the right one. The beauty in this, is that now there he has a much more rich and vibrant life from which his stories and music come. In his many years performing Reid has had the luck and good fortune to perform with some of the world’s most amazing voices, everyone from Stevie Wonder & Jennifer Holiday to Leann Rimes & Linda Ronstadt, including singing in an a cappella group in college with Sara Bareilles. He hopes that he will continue to be so lucky as to make music with these kind of talents for the rest of his life.
