Default Position are happy to announce The Warrior a long anticipated EP from Joseph S Joyce & Atmo Paritosh; which also features a remix from a talented new Belgian producer named Daniel[i]. The original mix is a dubby dreamy sequence with many twists, slowly building in complexity before deconstructing into an almost beat-less dub soundscape. Daniel[i]'s more uptempo remix is a little more dance floor orientated whilst remaining true to the vibe and spirit of the original; making it the perfect tool for the discerning techno performer. Atmo and Joe have been working together on tracks for a few years, after meeting at a gig in Ibiza. The pair instantly formed a connection through a shared appreciation of the deeper styles of dance music and the philosophical and spiritual tensions that go hand in hand with this genre. In the studio they were always able to enjoy focused and constructive sessions where they could be open and frank with one another, whilst quickly finding common ground and an agreed direction to take their music. This is a dynamic that can be quite rare to find. This EPs title The Warrior stems from a body of psychology relating to four archetypal characteristics known as King/Queen, Warrior, Magician and Lover. The model, popularised through the modern works of Robert More, Douglas Gillete and Dr Paul Dobrowsky can be traced back to ancient Greek philosophy. The ideology has taken on many forms and interpretations over the ages. The application of this model is most prevalent today among psychoanalytic studies and therapies surrounding masculinity. Jungian psychologist Robert Moore argues that masculinity is made up of these four archetypal male energies which serve different purposes. The theories go on to suggest that each of us possess a dominant temperament. Some of us may have a particularly King or Queen like temperament; someone who oversees, protects, and governs. The lover may find themselves overwhelmed by their artistry, consumed by matters of the heart, excelling in creativity but lacking pragmatism. The magician is smart, a natural performer, always first to take to the stage. The warrior is a take charge kind of person, very logical, organised and targeted. One of Dr Paul Dobranskys seminars indicate that through our romantic relationships we may often attract people of opposite temperaments, which forms a subconscious process of balancing or centering of our conscious condition. A lover may find some tenacity and direction with a warrior, where as a magician may feel someone with a king or queen temperament satisfies something that they themselves are lacking. As these two temperaments spend time with one another in relationship, what they stand to gain is a more centered psychological condition. For instance, the lover may begin to absorb and incorporate traits from their warrior partner, and in turn the magician stabilises with a king or queen. The ideal of course, is to have adopted an equal measure of each of the archetypal characteristics within your nature. These ideologies suggest that it is through relationships that we can achieve this state of being, as if it were a kind of exchange of energies. This EP focuses on inspiration drawn from the Warrior temperament, which perhaps demonstrates the most dominant of masculine energies. Exploring these kind of therapies and the story the archetypal characters can offer us some powerful explanations. The model can help us further understand the reasoning behind our individual limitations or strengths. Perhaps we can even begin to understand why some relationships may go wrong and how we can grow from them and move on. The Warrior will be release on September 28. 2015 in mp3, wav and STEM format.
