简介
With a "strong yet vulnerable" set of songs drawing mentions to The Sundays, Patty Griffin and Ricky Lee Jones, Brooklyn songwriter Brooke Fox's effortless vocals and direct lyrics draw a decidedly optimistic reality of relationships and human response. "Breathe The Same Air", her second self-released disc finds Fox a few relationships wiser, a few years stronger and newly married, which is a theme that threads sweetly through the collection of songs. Almost half of the tracks are collaborations, marking a shift in Fox's once-private universe of writing. The album opens with "Cinematic" (featured on the 2005 CDBaby Best Sellers compilation), a grand, pulsating homage to the "movie-moments" in everyday life. Beautifully soaked in nostalgia, "Breathe The Same Air" (Winner: 2004 Great American Song Contest Honor Award) is a waltzy lullaby, detailing the discovery of a lover's well-preserved childhood room. Brooke and husband/collaborator Kurt Gellersted, wrote and recorded the majority of the project in their Williamsburg basement studio before heading down to Nashville to mix the record with Jim Lightman, who had also worked on Brooke's first album, "NightLight" The album also includes the confessional "O City" which, along with "Bend", has recently been recorded by Actress/Vocalist Kathy Brier of ABC's One Life To Live and Broadway's Hairspray. The two songs appear on Kathy's debut record, "Heartbreaker" (now available at www.KathyBrier.com). On first glance, the strikingly pale Fox, glowing under the stage lights, is simply fair-skinned but her lilywhite features are actually the result of albinism, a rare genetic trait that also causes legal blindness and sensitivity to light. Growing up in Northern California, Fox's obsession with song craft was founded early. She began creating her own music in front of the Fox family piano at the age of eight and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Songwriting at Boston's Berklee College of Music before relocating to Nashville and finally to New York in 2000. She has performed to crowds in 23 States and 3 countries. Check www.BrookeFox.com for updated show listings.
