As a songwriter I’m often asked what type of music do you write about? It’s a hard question for me to answer because I enjoy all types of songs. All I know is that my songs are heartfelt and honest. Songs about love, and life. At times what it’s been like looking at the world as a sometimes struggling artist struggling along pickin’ and singin’ for “Nickels and Dimes” My influences as far as music have ranged from Elvis and Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard to Alan Jackson. The Beatles, The Stones, CCR, The Eagles. Hank Williams Sr. and Willie Nelson to Rick Nelson. The list goes on and always will, hopefully. So I guess here’s the best way I can describe my style or styles: Old School Country, Retro Rockabilly, Folksy-Folk and good ole Gut Wrenchin’ Blues I asked my long time friend Denis Colleret who also was the lead guitarist on my c d to write something about me and he very graciously accepted the challenge. Here's what he had to say: Mike Bush was fortunate to be brought up in the American south when the classic rockabilly sounds of Memphis still reverberated through the region. The musical influences he absorbed in his youth stayed with him even as he migrated west just in time to catch the wave of country-rock and outlaw music taking hold at the time. During this era he began performing and honing his songwriting skills in earnest and his reputation began to grow in California and Oregon. In this compilation of his best songs he expresses his heartfelt emotions in an honest and direct style not often found in today's airplay. From the wistful "Beautiful Smile" to the rollicking "Friday Night Boogie" you'll hear the echoes of the past presented for the listener of today. Denis Colleret
