To the Island resulted from collaboration between Sam Blight and producer/musician Gary Burke in the late eighties. It also drew on the talents of members of the Kitchen Records Musician's Co-Operative, many of whom have gone on to become distinguished performers in their own right, including Kavisha Mazella, recent recipient of an Order of Australia medal for services to music and John Reed, founding member of The Sensitive New Age Cow Persons.

A wide range of musical styles is encompassed in the works recorded and a rich tapestry of melody and sound is on offer.
