In 2004, Travis Austin assembled a collection of contemplative electronic pieces under the ‘Mediums’ moniker. From ComplicateEverything.com: “Throughout the nine digital works, basic waveforms give way to melodies and structures which fluctuate between frailty and stability.” Two years later, he and former Forty Second Scandals bandmate Aaron Castillo decided to re-work several tracks for live, acoustic performance. They invited long-time friend and cellist Caroline Wright as well as then-recent Castillo collaborator, trumpeter/keyboardist Ethan Greene, to participate in the project. The foursome began interpreting pieces from the self-titled album as well as writing new material. The resulting songs were then recorded in the spring of 2007 in central Austin, TX. Each song was then remixed, completing the audio portion of the group’s soon to be released album, Altogether. After the initial recording sessions, Ethan was accepted to the graduated program at Rice University in Houston, TX for music composition. Skilled multi-instrumentalist Brandon Bunch joined, performing through the summer of 2007 before Ian Richardson lended his talents. After Ian’s departure in April 2008, Travis, Aaron, and Caroline brought in another long-time friend, Aaron Ward, to complete the group.
