The Wedgwood Trio formed as a folk/gospel group in 1964. They naturally draw on their Southern Appalachian musical roots, being from the mountains of Western North Carolina and North Gerogia. Jerry Hoyle and Don Vollmer, who were high school classmates near Ashville,NC, met Bob Summerour from Dalton, GA, while working at a summer camp in the mountains of north Gerorgia. Their music followed them to college where they began to tour throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. This proved to be a defining experience, allowing them to cram four years of college into five. The group has performed more or less continually since, including tours to Australia, New Zealand, North America, the Uk, Ireland and the European continent. They anticipate celebrating their fiftieth anniversary with a tour during the fall, 2013, through the summer of 2015. Their core musical style is formed around Bob's five string banjo, Don's guitar, Jerry' s upright bass,cross harp and their warm southern folk/gospel harmonies. Over the years they have produced twelve recordings, and a DVD of their Australian tour. In 1996, Pacific Press published their story in the book entitled "Wedgwood , Their Music, Their Journey," by Marilyn Thomsen.
