Andy Cooper, James Caton, and Michael Cooper make up Room 24, an alt-rock/alt-metal 3-piece out of Austin, Texas that has been voted among the Top 10 "Best U18 Bands" in The Austin Chronicle's Austin Music Awards poll for the past 2 years, and won the 7th annual Jam Fest in 2014. "Closer To Reality", is their first professionally-produced EP, both produced and engineered by Tim Gerron of Gerron Music in Austin. Room 24 is influenced by Incubus, Deftones, Foo Fighters, Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Radiohead. The band itself, however, considers their music best described as something they call “melodic alternative” rock. The 3-piece strives for a sound that never reduces to instruments playing only conventional chords and expected progressions. Instead, they create a layered, textured sound of full melodic lines and harmonic structures. The result is music that is creatively much greater than the sum of just 3 individual parts. Andy Cooper, on guitar and vocals, pushes for innovation in the band's song arrangements and in his own creativity with guitar effects, gear, and soloing, all while staying true to the band's use of melodic lines which is characteristic of Room 24's sound. James Caton, on bass, provides a beefy, bass tone to the band's music which helps achieve the goal of a thick, full sound from only three instruments. Outside of music, James pursues a profound fascination with Viking history and mythology. Michael Cooper, on drums and vocals, has been drumming for more than half his life, playing in bands and even holding his own on stage, playing sets a couple of times with distinguished musicians, John Moyer (bassist with the band, Disturbed), Jacob Gonzales, and Deborah Brown. Michael is proud of the fact that he played his first professional gig as a drummer at age 10.
