简介

¡Viva la Revolucion! is Sones de Mexico Ensemble's fifth album. It is an upbeat celebration of The Mexican Revolution, one hundred years after it began. The album contains 11 tracks that include classic revolutionary songs form the early 20th Century as well as more contemporary tributes to this historical period. The album opens with 'La Marcha de Zacatecas,' a classic march considered by some as the second national anthem to Mexico. The rest of the album covers different genres. 'Rosita Alvirez' is a corrido, a narrative tragic ballad, delivered partly in English in an entertaining manner to reach a broader audience. 'Bola Suriana por la Muerte de Emiliano Zapata" features the female voice of actor Laura Crotte is a regional style from Tierra Caliente, on Mexico's Western coast. The album culminates with the four part Cantata, 'Revolucionarios,' written in a collaboration between music director Victor Pichardo and guest artist Guillermo Velazquez, an improvisational 'huapango' poet from Xichu, Guanajuato, Mexico. As it has come to be expected form previous Sones de Mexico Ensemble's work, the album is chuck-full of textures, diverse regional styles and many folk and classical musical instruments.
