This is the second volume of ambient improvisations by In Real Time. As with Vol. 1, these soundscapes were created for and inspired by a series of art gallery openings. The intent was to create a sonic environment that enhanced, rather than intruded on, the viewing experience. The gallery performances consisted entirely of spontaneous, open-ended improvisations. The music on this recording has been assembled primarily from those performances, as well as from live-in-the-studio improvisations utilizing the same approach. The result is a seamless flow of music that exists independent of the gallery experience. There are no overdubs. in Real Time is: Bob Kaus ~ electric bass, electric 12-string guitar, devices Clive Smith ~ electric and acoustic 6-string guitars, digital piano, laptop, devices Smith and Kaus first played together in the band Conversion. While primarily a vehicle for Smith's original songs and more expansive compositions, Conversion also experimented with group improvisation – a rewarding exercise which later inspired the formation of In Real Time. (Kaus can also be heard on Smith's debut solo CD, 'Clever Animals,' a collection of original songs, almost all of which are non-instrumental.)
