Having shared stages with The Pretenders, The Shins, Franz Ferdinand and Snow Patrol as a member of Red Riders, and touring solo with Joan As Police Woman and Aimee Mann, Sydney songwriter and producer Adrian Deutsch presents his second solo album - "Home". The album marks a decisive progression for Deutsch, who blends smooth Steely Dan and Phoenix inspired soul pop with... touches of Tom Petty and Paul Simon across 11 varied and voracious tracks. "I got a little bored with indie rock and started listening to Steely Dan, Hall and Oates, Michael McDonald - people like that. In tandem, I was enjoying stuff like Drake and Phoenix and in my mind the two worlds compliment each other. The buzz word in the studio was 'keep it smooth!'". The album poses the question: What is "Home"? Is it a physical location like a city or country, or is it just a state of mind? After working with Berkfinger (Philadelphia Grand Jury) on his debut solo album "Help You!", Deutsch decided to try a new co-producer in the form of Sydney's Tony Buchen (Tim Finn, Andy Bull, WIM). This was no casual undertaking, as the two realized their grandmothers both came from the same village in pre Holocaust Europe and were the best of friends. Deutsch and Buchen started the record as colleagues and finished it as family. The mood of the album swings from smooth pop celebrations of love and intimacy like "Follow the Dream" and "The One" to the late night philosophising of "For You, The War" and the title track "Home". "Subject wise, everything is about balance for me. Half my songs are lamentations and the other half are total celebrations. I have a good life but I always take time to stop and think about what my grandparents' generation and my parent's generation went through for me to be here now, talking about this music I've made". Adrian played most of the instruments himself but was joined by some excellent musicians for some tracks including Carlos Adura on drums (Deep Sea Arcade) Tony on bass and Daniel Weltinger on violin. It's simple. "Home" is a pop record with soul.
