I started playing guitar in 1995, and started writing pretty much after learning a few chords - I found it easy to write, it came naturally, but I never really did much about the music I wrote. Around 2008 I found myself with a lot of time on my hands and dedicated a year to really hone my craft and to write as much as I could. In that year I wrote nearly one hundred songs, finished a load more I had on scraps of paper, and I physically printed them with tabs and chords. Nine of the songs made it onto this album. I met Chris Burgess in 2009, a session musician and studio owner, and we sat about crafting an album from some rough recordings and my printed sheets. I must add I owe a lot of gratitude to Chris, he pulled a lot of things out of the bag to make this happen and the production and sound he really got right for me. The track 'When We Were Young' I first part-wrote in 1997, on a Saturday afternoon in University Halls, I couldn't get the second verse right, and I just left it but when I picked it up again over ten years later I finished it in an afternoon, Im glad I persevered! The track 'Without You' I wrote as the first dance song for my wedding - I wanted the song to be unique and I wrote it in fifteen minutes, two days before meeting with Chris to record it. I never wrote a song as easily as that, and it was simple and honest and everything I wanted to say to my Wife on our special day. The track 'Is It Me?' started as just a piece of music Chris had on an old hard drive that he had recorded sometime in the 90's, but when I heard it I thought I could add some lyrics to it, and soon after we had resurrected something that would probably never have been heard - I remember listening to the completed track with Chris, and a beer - good memories. I was always shy about my music, and I never had a strong voice, but I always wanted to record an album and Im proud that I got to do it. I live in London with my young family, and I will keep a physical copy of the album and show it to my kids when they are older, and hopefully it will inspire them to follow a dream or two. I am not one for wanting fame, or to play in front of thousands - but I wanted to record an adult album, to showcase some talent, that musically and lyrically at least made people think about the songs a bit and for them to say 'honestly, thats pretty good'. I hope I achieved that. I hope you enjoy these tracks. Tristan
