Chris Zurich draws on a background of soul, hardcore, punk and reggae. The result is a sound he refers to as the "soundtrack to culture clash" - a blend that is designed to "bring together people and groups that wouldn't normally associate". While he got his start in a West Philly basement playing in a Mars Volta cover band, he soon developed his own unique sound. Black Ink was recorded in Brookly, NY, but still remains true to its Philadelphia roots. The album attempts to create moods and emotions, at times languid and lyrical and others urgent and expressive.
