A J A is an experiment and an homage to my love of poetry and music. Here, I am basically trying out different music styles and different genres so that I can create what I consider to be \"Jazz\"...although I know that \"YAYA\" to your ears may sound like funky-soul-rock but to mine it sounds like jazz...that being because I base my music on the original definition of Jazz and the innovations, experimentations and outrageousness that molded the development of early jazz, which was, in effect, a desire by players to make music that was "different." Rock, soul, R & B and most of their derivatives, grew out of the rebellion of the late 60's especially after the 1969 "Summer of Love" experience. I come from the spirit of that generation and in the music of "YAYA', I've tried to bring that fresh, inspired, optimistic dream, of those who created music in those years, to the forefront... The three songs are structured upon percussive patterns that originate from Spanish, Andalusian and Gypsy beats. To supplement the rhythmic sections are guitars, both acoustic and electric, leading to an improvised and jazzy electric lead on "YAYA" which is reminiscent of African players...this adds to the international, World Beat flavour of the effort. The songs are topped off with poems set to the music sung with much feeling and with great background vocals, forming a strong delivery of the message the lyrics hold. Well, I hope you enjoy the music, the poetry and perhaps the message might caress your wandering thoughts. You may even come to share with me the belief that jazz is not just the beat but that it is the spirit, the intention and the love that is made by the player and given to the song. I hope you clearly find that prevalent in \"YAYA\" in its lyrics as well as the improvisation and the artistry...the songs were all recorded live in a makeshift studio where I once lived in Miami Beach, Fla., USA, in the spirit of a live performance...
