Having spent a great deal of my life studying and performing western music genres such as classical, jazz, rock, blues, folk, R&B and country I wanted to seriously immerse myself in the music of other cultures. This collection of tracks represents a partial realization of that immersion. Utilizing traditional instruments of particular regions as well as integrating specific melodic and rhythmic systems the music on this album is as authentic to each region as possible. In a few cases a real broad region has elements of different areas fused. Such is the case with Passage to India where Northern and Southern Indian styles are intermingled. In Open Country Raga the open tuned acoustic guitar part marries western folk styles with Northern Indian sitar type phrasing in an attempt to bridge the boundaries between the two styles of music. Many of the tracks on this album have been used in films, documentaries and other types of audio visual productions. My hope is that people will enjoy listening to the music as much as I did making it and that the tracks on this album are a source of inspiration and an incentive to explore other cultures.
