TWIN CITIES MUSICIANS SHOW LOVE TO LGBTQ HOMELESS YOUTH IN “POWER OF LOVE” COMPILATION ALBUM TO BENEFIT THE GLBT & CONNEQT HOST HOME PROGRAMS Jeremy Messersmith, Haley, Roma di Luna, Solid Gold and More Help Raise Funds for LGBTQ Youth Experiencing Homelessness Contributions include previously unreleased songs by Jeremy Messersmith, Haley, Roma di Luna, Solid Gold and Nick Jordan MINNEAPOLIS, MN. July 10th, 2018 --- A powerful collection of new songs will be released by some of the Twin Cities’ most prominent musicians in Power of Love, a compilation album created specifically to benefit LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness. The 10-track album will be released on July 24th. Among the notable tracks featured in Power of Love is the album’s first single: “Power of Love,” a collaboration from members of Solid Gold, Aero Flynn, with Cecil Otter (of Doomtree), resulting in a moving synth-pop gem that inspired the compilation’s title. The song was composed and produced specifically for the benefit. The album also includes the summery pop of Jeremy Messersmith’s “Olive and Horace Break Out of the Nursing Home” and the moody atmospherics of “My Wave” by Haley (formerly Haley Bonar). In addition, Jonathan Tolliver and Garrison Grouse of Black Diet reunite, providing the haunting “Love Gone Terribly Wrong”, while rising star Nick Jordan smoothly croons on his infectious R&B track titled “Release.” The album closes out with the bombastic yet mournful “Prom King” by Lavender Daughter, a song that evokes the gale-force power and beauty of Jeff Buckley. The artwork for the album cover was designed exclusively for the GLBT and ConneQT Host Home Programs by the talented and generous Minneapolis artist Jared Maire. Power of Love is the brainchild and labor of love of Ryan Berg, author of the award winning book, No House to Call My Home, and program manager for the ConneQT Host Home Program, along with album curators Zach Coulter and Matt Locher from Solid Gold. “Power of Love is a music-driven call to action in support of LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness and the fight for social justice,” said Berg. “These young people have had to face enough indignities. They shouldn’t have to face erasure and neglect from their own community.” On any given night in Minnesota 6,000 young people experience homelessness. 40% of those youth identify as LGBTQ. Providing affirming and supportive homes for LGBTQ youth is a critical part in helping them transition into stability. The GLBT and ConneQT Host Home Programs of Avenues for Homeless Youth are an ‘outside-the-system’ community and volunteer-based response to youth homelessness. They offer a transformative and intimate approach to LGBTQ youth by providing homes and personalized support. Only through the commitment from the community are these programs able to exist.
