It’s a ‘New Day’ for RAHM Nation (Nina Simone by Ohene Available Now!!!) Nina Simone’s works have influenced an abundance of performers and entertainers. Names such as Alicia Keys and Amy Whinehouse even list this blues and raspy artist as one of their favorites. However, while many artists pay tribute to their influences with a cover or sample, RAHM Nation recording artist Ohene is setting strides once again in the progressive arena of musical development with his latest release, Nina Simone by…, a full-length album dedicated to High Priestess of Soul, Dr. Nina Simone. This project will mark the first of its kind for a couple of reasons; it is a hip-hop/soul album entirely created and inspired by the work and life of Nina Simone and it will only be available via internet. “I wanted to create something that would unite generations,” Ohene explains. “This is the type of album that rap fans can share with their parents without becoming defensive or embarrassed. Likewise, the older generation that grew up on Nina Simone can use some of the cuts from this record to show their kids that their experiences are not so different.” Continuing with the objective of entertaining as well as educating through music, RAHM Nation has set the standard of leading by example instead of preaching into submission. With releases such as “Gnosis,” “On the Grind,” and now “Mama Said,” independent music need to look no further for inspiration than its own. Labelmate and President of RAHM Nation, G., says that this project is much needed in today’s hip-hop especially since the appreciation and respect of women and their contributions are being questioned by mainstream artists of other genres as well as the media. “It was a beautiful experience watching this album go from an idea to a reality,” explains the executive producer and long time friend. “The desire to do this project actual came to O quite some time ago. He didn’t need the maelstrom of events that has recently caused many in hip-hop to second guess their social responsibility. We at RAHM Nation have always been about respecting women, honoring the elders, and recognizing the genius in art regardless of fame. So it makes sense that only we would come with such an album.”
