Guidewires: With their high-energy performances, breathtaking arrangements and their infectious melodies, its no wonder that this band are being described as “The freshest sound in Irish music”. With four members coming from Ireland and one from Brittany it is inevitable their mix of music is not just Irish but also Breton, Middle Eastern, Galician and newly composed. Guidewires have an all-star line up with Irish music’s most famous concertina player Pádraig Rynne, Breton music’s hottest name Sylvain Barou on Flute, one of Ireland’s most recognisable names Tóla Custy on fiddle, top producer and performer Paul McSherry on guitar and one of the fastest growing stars in Irish music, Karol Lynch on Bouzouki. All members have had renowned fame individually within music. Their love and passion of this music has brought them together to create this unique and groundbreaking band “Guidewires”. The new album is due for release in June 2009 and one can only imagine this band will continue on an upward spiral. Pádraig Rynne – Concertina Pádraig is one of Irish music’s best known names and even though still in his twenties he seems to have played and recorded with the biggest names in music. An ex member of “Cian” – a groundbreaking band of the late 90’s and having recorded and performed with musicians such as Arty McGlynn, Kevin Crawford, Alan Kelly, At First Light, Flook … it is clear that he is one of music’s most in demand musicians. His solo album “Bye A While” released in 2005 was one of the fastest selling Traditional albums that year Tóla Custy – Fiddle The name of Custy is synonymous with Clare fiddle music, and the fiddle playing of Tóla Custy is one reason for that. Tóla is one of the most famous performers, composers and recording artist that Irish music has to offer. Tóla recorded his first solo album in 1994. This album received rave reviews in magazines worldwide. In 1995 Tóla, along with Pat Marsh, Diarmusid and Donnacha Moynihan formed the well known band "Calico". They recorded two cd’s and toured the world as a result. Outside of playing with Calico Tóla has recorded and performed with Mirella Murray, Flook. Lúnasa, Alan Kelly and his band, Arty McGlynn, Heidi Talbot, Pauline Scanlon, Gráda and Chara, just to name a few. These names show the high respect at which his fellow musicians regard Tóla. He is one of Irish music’s busiest performers at the moment. His compositionsequally as famous and can be heard in sessions, albums and performances throughout the Irish music industry. Sylvain Barou – Flutes and Low Whistles "Sylvain Barou, from Brittany is considered one of the best flute players of his generation. Playing mainly Irish and Breton music, Sylvain has played with Sualtam, David Pasquet, Guichen, Denez Prigent, Jacques Pellen-Celtic Procession, Gildas & JB Boclé, Dan Ar Braz, Yvan Cassar.. and has also been heard playing at some occasions with a few of the greatest names of Irish traditional music (Donal Lunny, Liz Carroll, John Doyle, Paddy Glackin…) In Brittany Sylvain is probably the busiest musician you can find and is involved in many ground breaking musical projects. Paul McSherry – Guitar A member of the famous McSherry family from Belfast, it’s no surprise that Paul has been credited with re-inventing Irish music on the guitar. A founding member of Tamalin, Paul has also recorded and played with Déanta, Mosaic, Liam O Flynn, The Donal Lunny band and the list goes on. Paul is also a very famous producer and has been credited with the production of some of the best known albums in Irish music. Karol Lynch – Bouzouki. Clare native Karol is the youngest member of the band but shows music maturity way beyond his years. His rhythmic style adds flair and energy to the band while his counter melodies leave audiences breathless. Having recently released a cd with Michael "Blackie" O'Connell entitled "Foolin In Doolin",Karol is also credited on a number of other albums. Karol is one of Irish music’s fastest rising starts.
