In 2018, Synth-driven indie pop duo Sonic Twin formed in Austin, Texas releasing their debut single “All Animals / The Next One”. Their lo-fi sound reminiscent of 80s college rock, dream pop, and the early 2000s indie scene, and soaked in a bath of caliginous reverb, displayed an earnest songwriting resolve, vibey with bright, catchy melodies. The name Sonic Twin comes from the duo’s collaborative songwriting approach, using two voices to form what they would affectionately call their sonic twin. Originally from the West Coast, Jon French (Vocals / Guitar) and Gabrielle Rose (Vocals / synthesizer) moved to Austin and opened a bakery together (Clever Baking Co) in the summer of 2017. During their daily ritual of making pastries and listening to an eclectic mix of indie records they realized they had a shared affinity for feel-good synth heavy sounds. The duo spent the next year making demo tapes that ultimately culminated in the warm synergetic tone of their most recent singles. Heavily influenced by American bands Beach House and Gardens & Villa, their sound also drew comparisons to artists like Phantogram, Talking Heads, Cults, Lower Dens, and Still Corners. A collection of singles, produced by Evan Crowley and recorded in Crowley’s Austin home studio, was mastered at Orb Recording Studios and will be released throughout 2018-2019.
