简介

Originally this song was written to sing at a Christmas party for the kids. I had fun singing it and people liked it. I never thought much about recording it. Was working as a singing waiter, did the song a few times and someone suggested I should try and get it covered (recorded by someone ) - So this recording was made to send to different artist and producers. Never got around to sending it out. Over the years my wife has been urging me to put it out. So up pops CD Baby. Oppurtunity. This recording was made in 1981 at Shooting Star Studio in Venice Ca. Guitar: Tim Osborne, Jerry Moore - Bass: Don Tittle, Drums: Joe Lurett Vocals Jerry Moore. It's a loveable likeable positive song. UPDATED 12/16/09 Okay, so who's JerryMoore - son of a Preacher man, actually Grandfather also - a lot of ministers in our family. My brother Pastor Don Moore and The In HIS Name Singers, check out their site really good music. Think I'll do this in the 2nd or 3rd person - to many I's makes me feel weird. Anyway- I - He, I mean, :-) was signed to Columbia records in the 60"s by John Hammond Sr. and Clive Davis (chk out John Hammond Sr. if your not familiar with who he was and what he did - Most people are familiar with the name Clive Davis and the people’s careers he is given credit for promoting, shaping and directing. They started me out w/ the same record royalty per record as Frank Sinatra - Well that's what I was told - didn't mean all that much to me in the 60's. What’s it worth now? A few more years and it'll be one of those rocking chair, "ya know I could-a been's". Seduced, I left Columbia for a smaller label, that said I would have complete control and artistic freedom. Eight years later I got the letter from Columbia saying they had picked up my contract. Oh well. Some great things happened for me while I was at Columbia, things that I didn't truly appreciate because of my age and just didn't know anything about the recording industry. Mr Hammond took me to the Apollo to see Otis Redding, and Aretha Franklin. I was at the studio when George Benson auditioned for Columbia, also for Sun House. Simon and Garfunkel - well I turned down a couple of their songs that became big hits - Had a knack for that - actually I think it was a blessing - tell you why later. Oh yeah the Apollo - years later played there with what was in those days the only group to be on the bill as an act that did not have a recording contract. Back to me? John Lennon, Jim Morrison, Pete Seeger, Joni Mitchell, plus others are in a College Textbook "Poetry Of Relevance" by Homer Hogan and chap 9 is Jerry Moore - I never answered Mr. Hogan's letter asking permission to put some of my lyrics in his book, someone wiser than me gave him permission. I was surprised that things I thought were hidden in some of my lyrics were very clear to him. A mistake in the book - he said I wrote the lyrics to This Is My Time - A friend and really gifted song writer Dave Parrett wrote it - Later I started singing it as This Is Our Time and changed up the groove and melody. Thats how we did it, he would take a song I wrote pull out the idea and run it by me. A lot of times I liked his better. (When I was back in Woodstock this Aug (09) for the Fortieth Anniversary Celebration of Woodstock, we (the band not the cult - (Jerry Moore and The Children Of GOD) Opened with his song (on line - see Roots of Woodstock concert). If you search you'll see Jerry Moore and The Children Of GOD or Children Of GOD in refrence to what lead up to there being a Woodstock concert......... Nile Rogers - the producer, git player, song writer and arranger in a twit on Aug 15th says he got the "chromatic"changes for the song "We Are Family" from us - I remember when he asked me about using them. A lot of people don't have that kind of integrity. I've read a lot of things about me that are way off base. And a few that have some of the facts right. A lot of it is my fault - I guess. A record Co owner, who I did some recording for, told me a few months ago, he didn't know anyone who had been able to more successfully remain anoymous than me. So what's written about me is second or third hand - this is a big step to try and change some of that. One writer said I was one of those phonies, not a real musician and had just faded away. Well I hadn't quit doing music. I got involved with a Street Ministry that was working for the homeless in S. Central LA. LA. PD said in a newspaper article - the place we were working at was the worst place in the worst neighborhood in LA County. The address was painted on the rooftops of the motel for the Police helicopters. On the street it was called the "Ok Corral". Drug dealing, pimps shootings etc and in the middle of it were kids with a parent and sometimes two parents living on County vouchers. It was a place where a lot of the people would put the mattress and boxspring agianst the wall below the window sill as extra protection from stray gunfire. and slept on the floor below the window sill. So if this guy had come there he would have heard me doing music. Well not just me. :-) Opened for Ike and Tina Turner - Electric Circus - Opened for Steppen Wolfe - Fillmore East - Played Steve Paul Scene +,+,+ That was with The Children Of GOD -the list is long - lotsa articles - Martha Velez - we had a band together called the JerryMoore Martha Velez Show and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers - We opened for a lot of people - Sly And The Family Stone - The Spinners - Dr. Hook etc and then there was The JerryMoore WorkBand - lotsa music. Folk, Blues, Rock, R&B - Funk - political. A lot of it I'm going to put on line in the next few months. I've been going through lots and lots of tapes, live gigs and studio tapes. So there's what I call Green songs and Gospel songs I've written. Funny that I would end up doing Praise and Worship music - The record Co's tried to get me to record Gospel but I wouldn't, back then because of the life style I was living - You know the drugs and Rock N Roll life like so many. One article I liked was in a magazine named Wax Poetic (I've never spoken w/ the author) He said Jerry Moore had turned his back on the recording industry and become a Street Preacher in Los Angeles. Never thought of it that way - "turned my back on the recording industry - I guess in a sense - I wasn't looking for a record deal and had changed direction in terms of the type of music I was doing. The recording industry was on the back burner. I made that, decision after my son was born. I wouldn't go on the road and became the momma daddy in a playgroup - worked as a singing waiter at night and was able to be a sortta stay at home day time dad. It was great!!!!! Then came the street ministry and outreach work. Don't know if I should mention - got a call a yr or so ago saying a book had been written about the Freedom Rides in the early 60's and I was one of the few original riders still alive. (Thanks) And they were doing a documentary on the rides and what happened. So that inspired me to dig out the music from the years. A big problem for me - some of it is really good, but glorifies some negative stuff - very tempting. WOW didn’t know I was going to share this much - And still so much is left out. Still not on the road but still play and sing. From time to time get to play and sing at the Mission backing up The Boggner Thomas Trio (Charlotte Thomas her mother and aunt - Mary and Margret -they're in their 80's) Mary and Margret once told me " we've been praying for you for a lot of years. That's important, blew me away. Sometimes play under the name "Faith Conspiracy" - Thanksgiving sang at an outreach at Embajada De DIOS (English = Embassy Of GOD) got to help feed a lot of people and friends from Ikar (Synagogue) came and helped, did arts and crafts etc for the kids; it was great. Been working together in that neighborhood now for eight years or so; some day we'll see an educational center there. So - let's see - Columbia Records, A&M, Sussex, ESP, Apollo, Electric Circus, Fillmore East, Be-Ins, Civil Rights movement, Save the Earth Anti Nuke Benifits (even had a group called Fallout for awhile) Lots of good friends musicians etc. A lot of people are gone. Earlier I said turning down (not on purpose) songs that became hits may have been for the best - I probably wouldn't be here now if I had done them and had hits. Hey - Paul Butterfield once showed me what Chess Records did to get that sound. Maybe I have something on tape that we did. Okay here's one for you - Henry Glover the guy who wrote Drown In My Own Tears and some other Ray Charles hits was in Woodstock because Paul, Doc John and some of the guys from The Band were putting together a thing. He showed me a song but made me promise not to show it to anyone - he actually taught it to me, but like I said made me promise not to show it to anyone. I don't know if anyones ever recorded it and Mr Glover's gone home. Over the years I was tempted to do it - it's probably been done (recorded)- It was called, as best I can remember, The Bread Line - It was about people being on the soup lines like in the great depression - Has anyone recorded it ?- Let me know. If not, am I still supposed to keep my word or was the song prophetic. Found a tape a few months ago song by Phil Jarro called Money, (not that one - song was about money) he was working on the song at the time - got in touch - he told me he had recorded it. Somebody should do it. He's not living here and the song was released in the country where he lives now (sometime ago). Played for a min with JD Hinton and Madison Mason group was called Men From The Mountian good writers good guys. If your ever up in the Woodstock N.Y. area check out Don Moore (Pastor) you'll be suprised who's up there hiding out - remember Jimi Hendrix Band Of Gyspies, Juma Sultan, he not only plays with Pastor Don but is helping young people get a grip :-) If you want to check out some reviews of the Woodstock 40th gig here are some addresses. In the picture you'll see standing next to me, playing guitar Dave Perkins we played together in the 70's (as you'll read ). Over the years I had wondered where he was so when we got in touch (because of the Roots Blog) I asked him to come play. At first I thought, how could I ask him to pay his own way, he had played with me but not the Children. As a matter of fact Don had said it'll be great for all of us to just get together everybody has their own recources and can get here. It's not like the old days. So if we were going to play it was on us. Everyone was saying, it doesn't matter we don't even have to play, we can just BBQ and sit around and jam, talk about the old days.( we couldn't find John Pratt and Tom Everett (Bershires); but the rest of us played - we did have a BBQ also. Dave came he's still a killer guitarist and muscian (check him out you'll be surprised to find out you've heard him alot and didn't even know it). So we got moved up from playing at midnight to a little after 9pm - not to many people there - so we went on - the place filled up while we were on and people graciously gave us a standing O. If you check out the comments on the Woodstock Roots web blog you'll see in the picture Juma Sultan playing congas. It was a gas - Ellen Mcllwaine, an old friend performed, she's still a monster singer - powerful voice - and they're right when they call her the Legendary Slide Guitar player - We backed her on an acappella, on the spot spiritual, gospel, shout , call and answer - out of the cotton fields, soul stirring, spirit freeing ............. did anyone video tape it? Oh well. I'm starting to remember gigs and stories. And this is longer than it should be - what about the song Remembaer the song - Santa's Gonna Bring Lotsa Toys - Hope you like it. GOD Bless.
