They met at a music venue in New York City named Arlene’s Grocery. Fiona’s band was one of 3 bands performing that evening and Crawford came with the owner of an Indie label he had worked with as a recording engineer at The Loft studios (whose clients include Rihanna, Rod Stewart, and others). The label was there to see one of the other bands, but Crawford was struck by Fiona’s vocal melodies and high energy performance. They hung out a bit at the club and decided to collaborate on some new music. After listening to Crawford’s quirky and driving tracks, some a bit dark, some humorous, or bouncy with minor chords over them, Fiona started writing lyrics that touched on her New York experiences and on darker themes inspired by Hitchcock, Twin Peaks, music they both enjoyed, and late nights in the big city. Each had prior successes; these songs are the result of them coming together. For those interested in more details, Crawford built tracks around drums, electric and synth basses, a little sampled guitar, keys and synths at his project studio. Fiona tracked her vocals at the commercial studio Crawford works at; he then revisited and tweaked parts as they meshed with the vocals. Edits came as each influenced the other.
