A versatile jazz musician, Mike Bogle was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1992 for his arrangement of Chick Corea's composition "Got A Match?" An accomplished pianist, keyboardist, conductor, programmer, trombonist, songwriter, vocalist, composer, and arranger, Dr. Bogle currently resides in Saint Paul, Minnesota where he continues to create new music. Mike serves as musical director/arranger for Irene Cara; performs with a variety of jazz, R&B, rock, and experimetal music groups; and finds time to mentor and teach inquisitive and talented students of music. From 2004-2008, Bogle served in a variety of positions (Co-Chair of Performance; Chair of Professional Writing and International Programs; Head of Composition Department; Director of M Theory Ensemble, etc.) at the McNally Smith College of Music (formerly Musictech College) in Saint Paul. Before moving to Minnesota in 1994, Bogle served as Associate Director of Jazz Studies and Director of Music Media and Technology at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he directed/taught Jazz Band II, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combos, Jazz Improvisation, Arranging, Composition, Music Media, Recording Techniques, and Computers in Music. Bogle wrote his first big band chart at age 14, graduated high school at age 16, and entered the University of Miami School of Studio Music and Jazz on a performance scholarship that same year. By age 18, Dr. Bogle had already performed with Tom Jones, Diana Ross, Linda Carter, Burt Bacharach and others. Dr. Bogle's performance credits now include: Doc Severinsen, James Moody, Slide Hampton, Jaco Pastorious, Ira Sullivan, Pete Christlieb, Duffy Jackson, Bobby Caldwell, Burt Bacharach, Diana Ross, Tom Jones, The UTA Jazz Orchestra, The University of Miami Concert Jazz Band, The UNT One O'clock Lab Band and The Mike Bogle Orchestra. Mike has recorded with many Latin music artists and organizations in Miami, Florida including Grammy-nominated salsa artists Willie Chirino and Lissette, Tania Records, Gustavo Rojas, and El Grupo "Chequere". Mike Bogle's musical talents and affiliations have taken him around the world to such locations as The Netherlands, France, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Peru, Mexico, Puerto Rico, The Bahamas, and Canada. Bogle is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP), International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), International Trombone Association (ITA), and American Federation of Musicians (AFM). Mike was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas in May, 2000 where he studied trombone with Dr. Vern Kagarice, piano with Dr. Steven Harlos, and composition with Dr. Cindy McTee.
