简介

With LOVE CYCLONE, Kam Falk continues his foray into classic, no holds barred fusion, enlisting the input of a circle of close musical collaborators whose stellar performances catapult this material to a level not often reached in the realm of indie music releases. This is a follow-up release to TRONIC (2016), with more to come, and these pieces, unlike earlier Kam Falk compositions, are not solely studio wizardry - they are intended for live performance. In 2001, Falk established the indie label, FALKREATIONS MUSIC (BMI), for the release of his debut enhanced CD, NATIVE TONGUE. That CD featured collaborations with the likes of Delmar Brown (Sting, Miles Davis, Gil Evans), Gerry Brown (Stevie Wonder, Stanley Clarke, Diana Ross), Jonathan Joseph (Pat Metheny, David Sanborn, Jeff Beck), Elliott Randall (Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, Randall's Island) and many more. In 2016, Falk released NATIVE TONGUE II in the same tradition, this time adding several jazz/R & B vocal tracks to the mix, and even more ambitious arrangements. Since 2001, the label has grown to include artists such as vocalist, Marcel Morejon (ESPIRITU, 2008) and Radaydeh (INFERNO and HUMAN CONDITION:OUD, 2012). Falk has also released a CD of unique Pop/Rock/Jazz/R & B crossover cover arrangements called RETRO-RESPECT (2010), as well as a solo piano CD entitled, WEDDING DAY (2010). The following review of NATIVE TONGUE was written for Jazzreview.com: This group performs with high energy and enormous depth. Better to listen than to read, amen? The first three tracks, "Around the Bend," "Shifting Sands," and "Pursuit" would qualify as the harder-driven tracks on this CD. They’re swift, a little rough and very ready as Falk and his groups come out swingin’. "Bolivia" is rather thought-provoking, classy and very cool. Falk does some really sweet piano work and his colleagues, Kushner and Mazzi perform like painters on a canvas. Still on the mellow side, "Zone Five" is a funky jam with Daryll Dobson’s rock-based guitar carrying on nicely through this aural dreamscape. "Welcome Home" is totally funky with Elliott Randall’s sleek guitar and good rhythm structure. "BopStop" has Falk and Delmar Brown answering each other on their keyboards bringing back a little taste of the old burners from the 60s and early 70s. With "Katy’s Song," it’s fair to assume it’s a tribute to Falk’s wife or at least a track with deep sentimental value and beauty, indeed. "One Summer" continues the mood with an almost classical sound. "Journey’s End" speaks for itself as a very sweet close to a road well traveled. "Native Tongue" has a nice mix of ballads, mid- and up-tempo pieces which round things out. All musicians performed as if their only purpose was this project. That is what makes it all so appealing. Read with your ears for an accurate conclusion. - Denai Burbank
