Having secured single of the week in both the NME and Melody Maker, it seems that Lowgold are already winning friends and influencing people... and rightly so. Whilst opener "In Amber" is the strongest track on offer here, the remaining three are by no means fillers. "Can't Say No" heads off at a quicker pace, leaving "God Willing" and "The Feelings" to stroll more slowly but just as purposefully towards the finish, tinged with melancholy and awash with feeling. Touched warmly by the hand of Uncle Sam and ever so slightly reminiscent of Teenage Fanclub, the melodies boast a charm, sincerity and emotion missing from so much of the meat 'n potatoes currently being dished up at Chez Pop. Reports suggest that songwriter Darren Ford sent a four-track demo to Nude Records "for a laugh". Thank heavens, he did.
