Dave's many and varied style influences include Cat Stevens, The Beatles, Radiohead, U2, Crowded House, Elton John, Simon & Garfunkel and Neil Young. Dave started on the piano at a tender age. An effort to put greater physical energy into music instead of tiring all those around him placed him behind a drum kit, where he for a time found his true calling playing in both classical orchestras and for a wide variety of bands ranging from contemporary jazz and swing to rock. He was supporting touring artists in venues and clubs long before the age he could legally order a drink in any of them. Supported acts include Chris Isaak, Silverchair, You am I and Hoodoo Gurus. An early realisation that it is extremely difficult to create melodic music with drums and a bit of wood in each hand had him start to concentrate on developing both his singing ability and with other instruments to express himself. This led to fronting bands and playing regular performances in and around Tasmania such as the Taste of Tasmania and touring to festivals and shows in mainland Australia.
