Florida Memorial University is home to a deep and abiding music tradition. As the birthplace of the Negro National Anthem, “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing”, FMU has long been a melodic and consequential voice in the African American community. To be sure, our University Family has been blessed with an abundance of musical talent in its one hundred thirty seven year history. This recording is a family reunion of sorts, a concordance of the many talents both instrumental and vocal possessed by our faculty, staff, students and alumni. It is a labor of love, birthed to be a gift to the community. As you listen to these selections, I hope they will feed your soul and sustain your spirit. More importantly, I hope these songs will encourage you to lift your voice and sing.
