简介
“Doc H and the Rio Laudanum Cowboys” is genuine, old fashion, Country Music from a guy who has played Blues most of his life. Unremarkable if you know anything about the history of the Country and Western tradition. Doug Sahm played some Country, Solomon Burke played some Country. Elvis, the Rolling Stones, even the Dead Kennedys played some Country music. The spirits of Hank Williams [the Elder] and Howlin’ Wolf are joined here by the kinship of Gram Parsons, Lowell George, and Lucinda Williams in a 12-song set that could only be produced by a veteran of American Music. “If I Was a Cowboy” is flavored by that Waylon Jennings drive. “Serena” could be Freddy Fender-meets-Ray Price. Wry commentary, Billie Joe Shaver style, is found in "Lookin' for a Honky Tonk to Call Home” and “Another Honky Tonk Song.” “Girl, You Trouble Me” is a nod to Ewan MacColl. “Two-Sided Man” was written by Harrelson in 1970, a true relic of his Hippie days. “Wes Barnett Breakdown” is an overt tip of the Cowboy hat to Joe Maphis. Jeff Ross [Desert Rose Band, Rank and File, Bellamy Brothers] provides some fantastic guitar and pedal steel-ed guitar that is worth the price of admission. If you like the music of Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, and Doug Supernaw you will hate this disc. If you love the Eagles, Alabama, or BR-549, you will hate this disc. If you’ve ever dropped some coc*ine into your whiskey, danced with a hooker, or shot a gun into the air, I think you’ll feel right at home.
