This is my attempt at an intellectual piece. (style:Urban Progressive) "JD's Pursuit" is a 300+ bpm jam session tune in the style and tradition of the Detroit fast bop/hard bop style of playing that you can find any day of the week in the City. Also known as "Larry's Theme" as it is the 'theme music' for the legendary Detroit saxophonist, Larry Smith, when he graces my gig with his presence. (style:fast hard bop) "A Love Deferred" is a love song written for a love lost and found again. It was originally a jazz ballad but on this track I put a back beat on it along with the Wurlitzer to make it more like I would play it on a live set. (style:jazz ballad) "The High Priest and the Profit" is a reflective piece that explores the feelings of success and failure. (style:Urban Progressive) "The Dancer and the Assassin" is a piece I wrote for my son whom I saw dancing with one of his preschool friends. He was doing all of his ninja moves (without the plastic weapons) and the girl was just dancing like a kid. This was my attempt at trying to capture the sense of nostalgia I had watching my son have fun. (style:medium Latin jazz groove) "Tomorrow" is a song of hope and renewal that I wrote in 1996. I came across my old chart, and I still liked the melody, mostly. So, I cut the 'bridge' out completely and re-harmonized the chords to reflect how I write today, while still trying to maintain the integrity of the piece. (style:Urban Progressive)
