"Sonare 18a, from Work no. 84 is composed as a jazz trio comprised of electric guitar, electric piano, and electrical drums. As electric music, it aims at the sound of traditional free jazz in a different way. Taking the score for the improvisations of the individual musicians as a starting point, the process then references the material for reconstruction. Once the improvised tracks have been created, they are taken by the composer, shifted in time, processed, mixed, and finally mastered.

The guitar can be heard playing a harmonic and melodic generator of the piece, and Jeremy Kern, on the electric piano, was chosen from all possible pianists to play against the resulting recorded guitar track. Coming very close to co-composing the piece, Jeremy Kern is prominently listed on the title cover. The drum kit is sampled J Groove, is original to J Groove, and is added in the final recording session, following the two instruments in the trio. The musicians never met during the recording and processing stages of the composition, instead corresponding and transmitting their contributions from different cities. The final stage of this process of mashup, mixing, and mastering, was done remotely in a distant studio. The final action taken is the score for the musical improvisation is destroyed, leaving only the sound recording as evidence of the music." - Saragoza
