简介
Cityspeak is an electronica music project, located in New York. CitySpeak is fronted by Jesse Mason, from New York, US. His eclectic music style began at a young age with his fascination with synths found prominently in 80's new wave. Striving to produce the interesting and unusual; atmospheric/stadium sounds are often paired with bold chiptunes, 80's synths, pads, unique melodies, and of course deep bass. This seemingly odd combination results in a refreshingly new twist on today's often "cookiecutter", repetitive electronic music. CitySpeak draws his inspiration from artists like Vangelis, Nobuo Uematsu, Chemical Brothers, M83, and several others. CitySpeak actively engages his fans, and reaches out to them on a regular basis. You can find him frequenting Cityspeak's music pages, (facebook, soundcloud, etc.) posting updates on upcoming releases and responding to what his listeners are saying about his music. What Critics are saying: Ringo Cisneros of Coyote Music: Do you remember the 1982 film Blade Runner? You know, the film with Harrison Ford and Edward James Olmos—it took place in Los Angeles in the year 2019 with flying cars, organic robots, and mega structures. No? In a way, Jesse Mason creates that reality to life through his music. New York’s Jesse Mason goes by the name “CitySpeak” who picked up a fascination for musical tones from early video games. He is quite similar to electronic bands like The Chemical Brothers, Neon Indian, M83, and Washed Out. When you listen to his songs you can garner futuristic and atmospheric like sounds that take you into a different world. Jesse produces unusual beats that oddly sounds like something off of a sci-fi film. Coincidence? Mason provides his audience with reverb effects, computerized sounds, mesmerizing synthesizers, and high energized drum loops throughout the album. A review of the Audio Tech-Noir track M. Machina by Inhale Times: CitySpeak leverages incredible patience in delivering the moving, breathing electronic tapestry of "M. Machina". Dynamic sound environments come alive in beautiful, multi-faceted and shifting synthetic complexions, arousing unexpected reflections within an inspired imagination. Jesse Mason AKA, CitySpeak utilizes a galaxy of electronic sounds building up through out the piece, this track can be said to be a unique recording that navigates and fuses sounds of natural beauty with soft, thin white static snow that is quietly interlaced in backwards bell drones and pulsing chime clusters. Another unique and excellent release from CitySpeak. C Bret Campbell of Middle Tennessee Music: Working on a Roland setup, CitySpeak’s Mason mixes quirky bleeps and bloops into deep-trance beds with big, lush pads, and trashy drums making a rather unique outcome. There is a vibe or feeling through the EP that makes me think of the artsy crime movies Jason Statham does. I can’t quite describe it, but it’s there – a sense of urgency, almost desperation, creeping through the ones and zeroes. How that’s possible, I don’t know. Devoid of lyrics, it seems a difficult task to actually convey emotion with electronic music, but the cat pulls it off! Like I said, it’s not my normal cuppa, but I do believe I’ll be storing these tracks on my nexus to plug in for some of the long-distance late-night drives I get to pull. It’s that kind of thing for me. Rick Jamm of Jam Sphere Indie Music Magazine: Cityspeak brings a lot to the table, the technique is solid, and the music itself is at times epic, at other times soulful and inspiring. The offerings here, like “M. Machina”, “Pris”, “Mute City Interlude”, “Rad Racer” and “Momentum” show an artist refining himself and are truly hopeful signs of great stuff to come! CitySpeak just excels at making feel good music. The arrangements are very “detailed” with so many different sounds; you can tell that Mason takes time to perfect his craft. To my mind these songs are just a small glimpse of his talent. The music arcs from atmospheric staging to dramatic build so well and, of course, delivers the massive drop that, by the time it comes, you are about ready to explode for. Instead of falling victim to following the formalities of the electronic genre, like his many contemporaries, Jesse Mason and CitySpeak, forges its own path through the jungle of electronica possibilities. The result is an original and inventive collection of electronic songs. Many music fans often look with disdain upon artists who create dance music. As if dance music automatically flows out of a computer or sequencer at will. It is often forgotten that creating dance music takes an effort and a high level of creativity. CitySpeak’s music is a product of a highly creative spirit and a great ‘feel’ for the right sounds and moods. On these latest releases, Mason shows that he has genuine music producer skills. The songs are a blend of old-school computerized sounds, and present-day IDM rhythm and technology. CitySpeak deliver smooth transitions, building energy levels, compelling synthesizers, and a careful selection of sounds that flows so easily into the mind, that absorbing it is as easy as breathing. From the first track to the last, CitySpeak move through a variety of tempo and mood changes, always producing songs that are uplifting, interesting, captivating and reassuring. The tracks rarely ever get bogged down with overlong boring sections, corny samples, or cheesy effects. The music is layered, lush, and warm, without losing its sharp bite, while the beats tend to be more interesting and fuller than your typical slamming dance kicks. If you like melodic and atmospheric, electronic music, you will probably like CitySpeak.
