简介
A new group, a nice brand of konpa -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is yet another new sound on the Konpa scene. I must say I did not know what to expect when I purchased the CD on the recommendation of a friend who is familiar with my taste. Indeed, it was a good choice. The new group “Fasil” is most entertaining and interesting. Entitled “Zanmi”, the CD is very well put together and the arrangements are very good. Fasil plays a brand of konpa that gives you a nice, relaxing feeling . The background vocals is most innovative. I also like the brass section which, interestingly enough, is comprised of a trombone and a trumpet, without the traditional saxophone. It sounds very good. I particularly enjoyed the title tune ”Zanmi” written by Richard Guerrier. I like the different movements in the melody. The group may be new, but the musicians sound like veterans. The arrangements by Reginald Cangé of tune No. 7 “What love is” written by the famous English-American group Foreigner, is quite creative. The brass lines are excellent. You actually do not miss the saxophone sound. Another example of the sophisticated sound of the group can be found in the introduction of tune No. 8, Fanmi Lanmou. Veteran musician Dener Céide does an excellent job of harmonizing the voices, the brass and a solid rhythm section. As you listen, you can definitely hear the influence of rock music on those musicians, as evidenced by the use of rock guitar sound, particularly in tune no. 9, Blessé. I also particularly enjoyed tune No. 11, Ti Pouchon, an adaptation by Toto Nécessité. This song will bring back a lot of memories: a bit of Toto Nécessité, a bit of Coupe Cloue, even a bit of Tropicana, all mixed up for your enjoyment. This song is a hot one on the CD. If I have any criticism, it is that the mixing could have been better. At times, the voice of the lead singer does not come out clear enough and sometimes, the trumpet is barely heard. But this should not prevent you from thoroughly enjoying the CD. It is well worth it for you to add it to your collection. Help fight Haitian CD piracy, it is bad for everyone.
