This song is based on the doctrine of justification, the biblical truth that God legally declares us righteous in his sight not by anything we have done or achieved, but for the sake of Jesus Christ, who took the penalty of death we deserve for our sin, and gave us his record of righteousness that only he deserved for living a righteous life. Justification: our right standing with God based on his grace toward us for the sake of Christ.
