简介
New Jersey Prog Rock trio Mythology's third full length album Mythology III: The Search For Relevance is a tour de force from start to finish. From the opening driving notes of "Swashbuckling Swashbucklers", it is very apparent that these 3 men have tapped into something uber creative, visceral, and ultimately satisfying. A medium that allows them to be true artistic visionaries. Bandleader and Composer Brynen Sosa shares with us the most concise and cohesive version of what his brainchild Mythology has done thus far. Without, of course, sacrificing any of his original vision for each song or the sometimes hyper-technical approach to composition that Mythology has become known for. It also noteworthy that the razor sharp sense of humor and satire that permeates throughout everything Mythology does hasn't left the building. Nor does it seem to be leaving anytime soon, if at all. In so many ways is "III" trademark Mythology: Sosa's wild and unique Guitar pyrotechnics and smooth baritone vocal. Dane Carmichael's Jaco-esque Bass shredding. And the new addition of Jordan Morrissey on Drums is nothing short of furious, yet impeccably controlled. The lyrical content provide a glimpse into Sosa's inner monologue which swings uncontrollably between fantasy-inspired storytelling, scathing social commentary, and the absurdity of the Human condition. In between vocal parts are typically long instrumental passages in which Mythology proves once and for all that they can not only make you smile with clever wordplay, but can also impress you with their respective instrumental prowess. The mood changes rapidly throughout the entire album. The pure cinema of "Swashbuckling Swashbucklers", the Proggy instrumental workout "Armenian Blues #5", the tenderness of "To Those We've Lost", the nod to Adult Contemporary music of "Sosa's Requiem", the infectious and melodic "Shmuley Boteach". And of course la piece de resistance: "Return To Planet Zeblos", a nearly 14 minute Prog Rock epic that tells the story, both orally and musically, of what may happen if Humans discover the secret to Immortality. Mythology III: The Search For Relevance is a must listen for any fan of Progressive Rock!
