Like many other Jamaican musicians, Trevor Thompson, otherwise known as De African Sledge, started singing at a young age in Mandeville, Jamaica, where he was born and raised. He then moved to Kingston after graduating from high school in 1980. While living in Kingston, Jamaica he was introduced into the music scene where he was granted the opportunity to share his music talent with Junior Griffiths and Edmon Murray. They collaborated together and formed the group called Moja, meaning together as one. The group Moja performed and wrote many songs together. Their standard of music was very high. They were highly rated by every top musician in Jamaica that heard them. While rehearsing at a studio in Half-Way Tree, Kingston, the great singer, song writer and musician, Beres Hammond, was highly impressed by their voices. He immediately requested them to become his back-up vocal singers. Moja accepted the offer from Beres Hammond and started their musical journey in 1982. They toured many places in the U.S.A, Canada, England and the Caribbean Islands. In 1986, the group split. It was then that Trevor Thompson decided to enjoy the hills of Mandeville and take a few months off.. By the end of 1986, he entered into music again, sharing his love of music by becoming the lead singer for the reggae band called Bomb Shelter. He enjoyed singing authentic rock reggae music from the heart, as music ran through his blood, as a Rasta man. Bomb Shelter band toured Japan twice in 1987 and 1988. In 1995, Quino, the lead singer of the California base reggae band called Big Mountain, who had the number one song hit, called “Baby I Love Your Way”, on the Billboard Reggae Chart had first heard of Trevor Thompson. It was then, that Quino was highly impressed of Trevor's music talent and song writing, that Quino decided to produce him. Together, many songs were recorded. After 1995, Trevor Thompson fulfilled his love of farming, and focused on song writing and singing full time. He started singing authentic rock reggae music in the hotel music industry which he has been known as De African Sledge performing live sharing his love of music and performing arts in the Caribbean. De African Sledge has written many songs such as Searching, In My Housh, Rock Stone Lick Hot, Smoke, George, Happy Father's Day, Love Is, The Virus and Unite. De African Sledge is now found singing full time, enjoying his love of music and has start recording his music and he is ready to launch his new career which is the changing of the reggae guard, the launch of the reggae rocket, De African Sledge.
