Dagar Brothers专辑介绍:by Adam GreenbergOriginally recorded at a small concert in Calcutta, this recording of the Dagar brothers performing Raag Todi is the first full-length recording of a performance released (usually, they've been shortened down to 20 or 30 minutes, due to the necessary limits of vinyl). "Todi" is a morning rag, and it was performed at the proper time of day (something to be desired in Indian music, but not always the most important factor in a performance). The one problem that the average listener may find is the incredible length of the work. The three tracks are all part of a single item, running roughly an hour to an hour and a half. This is not so unusual at all in the genre, but it may lull some to sleep after a time. Nonetheless, the Senior Dagars were at the top of the genre for some time, and this album helps to show why. For fans of dhrupad, this is a must-have. For others, it may not be a bad starting point to look into the genre.
