Thea Wray The musician, the songwriter, the teacher, the storyteller…….……………… Thea Wray, a classically trained pianist, has played Jazz, Reggae, Pop, R & B and folk music both as a solo artist and as part of a group during her musical career which goes back some 25 years. She uses these genres to express her devotion and love for God and to further the gospel of Jesus Christ His Son. Her record label Water II Wine Music released her sampler in 2002 entitled Water II Wine Praise 1, followed by her debut full length album ‘noboundariesnobordersnolimits’ in March 2003 which has received critical acclaim. Her latest release ‘Little Baby Jesus’ is a single meant to focus our eyes and hearts on the birth of Christ and not the trappings of the Christmas season. British born, of Jamaican parentage, Thea continues to write, arrange and produce, adding to a large and diverse portfolio of original material spanning the genres of contemporary Gospel music, Jazz, Folk, Soul, and Reggae and is working on an instrumental album as well as Volume two of her Songs for Life song book.(Volume 1 was published in 2007.) Thea is a vocal and piano tutor and works with individuals as well as with groups. She designs tailor made programmes of study to meet the needs of her students. She also teaches music and leads choirs in three primary schools on South London. Thea leads primary school assemblies as a representative of Spinnaker Trust, a Christian charity based in London. Early Jazz influences were the singers of the 1940's era.e.g Ella Fitzgerald. More recently Roberta Flack, Nina Simone,Karen Carpenter, Natalie Cole, Cee Cee Winans, and Karen Wheaton have been important in both her playing and singing. Songwriting has been influenced by Michael W Smith, Graham Kendrick, Don Moen and Ron Kenoly, and of course King David. Through WATER II WINE MINISTRIES Limited, Thea and her partners seek to raise up, equip and mentor young musicians and to encourage the production, release and promotion of their original music.
