简介
At 64, he's the most storied Country singer in town. He's also now the coolest, thanks in part to his affinity for Johnny Cash. Chris Riemenschneider, Minneapolis Star Tribune Sherwin Linton launched his career in the music business in the mid 1950's as a disc jockey and live performer of Rock-A-Billy Music on radio station KWAT in Watertown, SD. Sherwin moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1957, and expanded his territory from the mid-west to playing nightclubs and ballrooms throughout the country. He journeyed to Nashville in 1966 where he cut "Cotton King," a song that catapulted him to the top of the Country charts. Roy Acuff, with whom Sherwin toured, was so impressed with Linton's talents that Sherwin was signed to the legendary Acuff-Rose Publishing Company and Hickory Records, resulting in numerous TV show appearances and coast-to-coast tours. In 1971 Sherwin took his concert show behind the walls of granite at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls, SD where he recorded a live album entitled "Hello, I'm Not Johnny Cash." This very successful album earned Sherwin nominations in 1972 and 1973 for Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Association of Nashville, and the Academy Of Country Music plus high compliments from Johnny Cash himself. Subsequent hits included "You Men Are All Alike", "When She Cries", "Dusty Roads and Prairie Towns" and the 1986 novelty song, "Santa Got A DWI," an anti-drunk driving song that hit the charts and has become a Christmas favorite. Sherwin continues to gig tirelessly with his Country - Rock-A-Billy Band, thrilling crowds across America. "It Happened In America" is an eclectic collection of seventeen original songs from the pen of Sherwin Linton. The styles draw from his early Rock-A-Billy influences, "Ventures" guitar, and Johnny Cash, "Sun Records," to contemporary rockin Blues and some traditional country and Gospel, each with a story or message. America through the eyes of a supreme showman and storyteller. The unique instrumentation includes stellar performances by Renowned Dobroist Johnny Bellar, and Peter Ostroushko - Mandolin & Fiddle. Musical Saw, Stemware, Washboard, Pickin Bow, Pump Organ, plus Great Guitars and Rhythm Sections! "What People Have To Say" "It's Perfect, It's Great, It's You" Dave Hoffman, Hoffman Talent Agency, Minneapolis, MN "Sherwin Linton turned hipsters heads with his performance at the "Cabooze." Chris Riemenschneider, Minneapolis Star Tribune "It's Clear His Audiences Are Mesmerized By Him." Denise Tucker, Sioux Falls Argus Leader "Sherwin Linton has the perfect voice for the music he is presently working on." Bob Everhart, Smithsonian Folkways Records "The young crowd gushes toward the stage like a burst dam." Rob Hubbard, St. Paul Pioneer Press "Sherwin Linton is the real deal. You can hear it in his deep South Dakota drawl, and see it in his cowboy boots and fringed suede jacket." Chris Roberts, "Word Of Mouth" - Minnesota Public Radio "Road Rage Rudy," one of Linton's up-to-date songs is an example of how he's survived this long in the music business and still stayed interesting and relevant.
