The Albrights marks the band’s first studio release since 2011’s “Ask, Tell.” Highlights include Donohue’s instantly hummable pop stomper ‘Soundwave’ and Barry’s hauntingly plaintive ‘Over and Over’, which employs deft, minimalistic guitar, bass and drums with a string trio. Barry’s ‘Pretty Flower’ feels like a dirty 60s ditty with Queen- and Beach Boys-inspired cresting harmonies. On the confessional ‘Honey’, Donohue whispers truths in the listener’s ear above the bands’ instrumental undercurrent. The Albrights was recorded at Robby Takac’s (of the Goo Goo Dolls) GCR Studio in Buffalo, NY. The band co-produced the album with Justin Rose, who also mixed it and served as engineer. It was mastered by Anthony Casuccio of Xtreme Audio. Guest musicians on the album include Katie Panfil (violin and viola), Tyler Skelton (trumpet), Katie Weissman (cello) and Charmange Chi (backing vocals ‘Zion Man’). In the album notes Crane speaks of his goal to capture the album’s authentic masculinity: “The first image: cowboy’s in the midst of an extraordinary adventure... a symbol of how men are expected to react and behave. Once we dig though, we see a tenderness... often overshadowed by the armor we’re encouraged to wear.
