Requiem for a New Day
简介
These works were composed by Lewis Flinn between January and March 2009, as a response to this momentous time when it felt like an endless roll down a long, dark mountain. The stock market was plunging, jobs were vanishing, and “crisis”, “worst ever”, “never before in our lifetime” echoed in the air from near constant repetition. The world, as we had known it, was coming to an end, or at least that’s what we were being told. These pieces attempt to compositionally draw the variety of emotions of this particularly dramatic period- from panic, to nostalgia, anger, anxiousness, longing, and finally hope. Like an art exhibit, theses pieces are all part of the same collection, with similar compositional motives, chords and patterns running throughout. American cellist PETER SACHON has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. His diverse career has led him to perform with orchestras (Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Virginia Symphony), bands (Pink Martini, Rufus Wainwright, Dee Snider), and for some of the worlds leading performers (Audra McDonald, Victoria Clark , Deborah Voight). He has recorded and performed for the Broadway productions of “Fiddler on the Roof”, “High Fidelity”, “The Light in the Piazza”, “Legally Blonde.” As part his ongoing concert series The Cello Project, Mr. Sachon has premiered many new works written for him by such composers as Stephen Schwartz, Michael John LaChiusa, Stephen Flaherty, and Ricky Ian Gordon. He is currently playing in Lincoln Center Theater’s production of “South Pacific.” BRAD SIMMONS – Performer, composer, music director, and vocal instructor. NYC music direction credits include LIKE LOVE (NYMF), THE TICKET (Sage Theatre), SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE (The Actors Studio/New School), FAIRIES (NYMF), LA GIOCONDA (Manhattan Theatre Source) and STARTING HERE, STARTING NOW with Maltby & Shire. Stage credits include KISS ME, KATE National Tour (Gangster #1), HELLO, DOLLY! with Carole Cook (Cornelius), and leading roles in KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN, JOSEPH…DREAMCOAT, and GODSPELL. He is most recognized as The Pianist in the cult film CAMP. He is most proud of wearing his composer hat. He and his writing partner, Stephan deGhelder, have penned A CHRISTMAS CAROL, STAGE BEAUTY, and A KISS FROM ALEXANDER that received a Best Score of a New Musical nomination for Chicago’s Jeff Awards (Bailiwick Theatre). Brad Simmons Band recordings can be found at Itunes and CDBaby. LEWIS FLINN has composed scores and songs for over 60 productions on and off Broadway in theaters such as 2nd Stage, Playwrights Horizons, Lincoln Center Theater, La Jolla Playhouse, Hartford Stage, The Vineyard, Drama Dept, MCC, and Concrete Temple among others. His upcoming musical “Give It Up!”, with Douglas Carter Beane, will open at the Dallas Theater Center in January 2010. Other musicals include “On, Girl” (with Steven Sater), “Like Love” (NYMF 2007) and “Down There” (with Brian Crawley). His songs have been recorded by many artists, including Jennifer Holliday, and were recently featured in Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series. On TV, he wrote the themes and music for “The Power of 10” and “Million Dollar Password” on CBS and internationally as well a numerous national commercials.
