简介

Billboard Dance Trax by Larry Flick on "The Devil Made me Buy This Dress" And while you're sashaying across the room, listen closely for "The Devil Made me Buy This Dress" by I.M.T. Consider this a darker, more confrontational side of the recent spate of "drag-disco" recent. This time, a Euro-influenced trance beat is fueled by ominous synths and deep, disjointed chatting about transsexuality and sex change operations. The recording manages to employ high camp and forboding vibes almost simultaneously. Realness personified, DEEP. Music for a Queer Planet By Margaret Coble DANCE MUSIC AUTHORITY Gender Bending Beats I.M.T. "THE DEVIL MADE ME BUY THIS CD" "Free Yourself To Become Yourself" is not only the name of the New York based cult troupe I.M.T.'s theme song, but also their mantra for life in general. "No boredom here", says Junito Perez of Miss Girl Records/ Fierce-o-Rama Recordings, the groups record label. " Our music is all about fun, diversity and the celebration of self acceptance, via trippy dance beats and sounds." I.M.T. made a name for themselves in the New York underground club scene via their cult classic "THE DEVIL MADE ME BUY (THIS DRESS)," a deep dark synth filled trance house tune filled with cheeky banter about transsexuality and having a sex change operation. The group's debut full length CD "THE DEVIL MADE ME BUY THIS CD" ( FIERCE-O-RAMA RECORDINGS/ MISS GIRL RECORDS ) includes two solid remixes of that crowd pleaser, as well as several remixes of their more recent deep diva house hit " I DON'T WANT TO BE ALONE." There's ten upbeat tracks in all, including an aggressively pounding update of "Money (That's What I Want)," as well as the aforementioned I.M.T. theme song " FREE YOURSELF 2 BECOME YOURSELF." The production quality isn't exactly consistent throughout the album's 64 minutes, but it's an enjoyable ride for those with a wicked sense of humor and an underlying urge to boogie! I can envision this playing in the hippest of hip joints in Manhattan's seedy underbelly, so if that sounds like your scene, you might want to check them out. "The Devil Made Me Buy This Dress" It's a solid, bassy house beat complete with apropos trance keyboard. However the sample of "The Devil Made Me Buy This Dress" tends to get a little repetitive after a while. This could be why I prefer ( and LOVE) the "Instrumental". The song could use a more powerful melody, which would have improved it's rating (***.5) For those with a gender identity crisis happenin', beware! This has some strong transsexual connotations. From J. Box Underground News I.M. T. featuring Kelly V. "I Don't Want to Be Alone" House, and more house, but this one isn't too bad. The first out of the five mixes, "Songstress mix" seems to be a step above standard underground house. "Eurofierceness" starts out with some piano house and also has an Italo-house flavor to it. The "Fragancia De Amor" mix has a deep underground sound and some trippy vocals to it. The last mix is the I.M.T. Theme (Free Yourself), the "Miss Girl Hopes To Become" mix. This song has a very underground flavor; it starts out with a rave whistle, some scary synth sounds, and it also harbors some whacked out vocals. The I.M.T. Theme is the best mix on the record. "I Don't Want to Be Alone" Another American contender to note is a big underground hit that's starting to spread down the happy house highway via enthusiastic club jock word-of-mouth. It's called "I Don't Want to Be Alone" and it's by I.M.T., the troop behind the classic gay raver "The Devil Made Me Buy This Dress". The new release is much more accessible, thanks to a slick production with lots of hooks, a real DIVA vocal, and a lively choral punch line delivered by Earth Kitt. This 126 b.p.m. beauty, on NY based Miss Girl Records is a left field surprise that's right on the money. Underground News Magazine "I don't Want to Be alone" I.M.T. Featuring Kelly V. "Fragancia De Amor Mix" Produced by Junito Perez /Damon Reed Miss Girl Records/USA If disco is predestined to rise again, then I.M.T.'s second release typifies the restyled sound that will help the revival.Intoxicatingly intense emotions are surrealistically expressed over "Old Skool" instrumentations. Intricately busy and embellished by elaborate keys and structural deviations, this breath of freshness celebrates one's innocence. No fatty tissue, all meat. This is disco deep. reviewed by The Two Hillbillies Billboard Magazine Dance singles Reviews By Larry Flick I.M.T. Featuring Kelly V. "I Don't Want To Be Alone" Kelly exudes all the drama this pensive deep-houser requires. She is bolstered by a dark and intense groove that seems custom made for underground consumption. Several mixes are included and each is heavier than the next. Be sure to check out the new mix of the previously available" The Devil Made Me Buy This Dress" (The I.M.T. Theme) on the flipside.
