Alright!? I hope you like my cover. Took me a while to think of a concept. I go by the name Joe Shyna pronounced “Shy – Na”. I'm originally from Zimbabwe but I've lived in Southend since the start of high school so I guess that makes me an Essex lad right? Too right! I started rapping when I was 10 and I've always had dreams of hearing my music across the world. So this is the first of many efforts towards that goal. Believe me! Why king of Savannah? Well my place of birth is south of the equator and the land is distinctively characterised by its Savannah planes. I was born in Bulawayo, which is also known as the city of kings, hence the ‘King’ part. The music on this EP draws inspiration from my exposure to a multitude of genres, sounds and cultures. I grew up listening to the likes of lucky Dube, Bob Marley and Michael Jackson during my early years. I would sit by the old record player, break it, fix it and then listen to my Dads record collection. It was the likes of Tupac, the Wu, Puff Daddy and Biggie that really had me excited though. I would sit for hours with my brothers and rerecord famous rap songs and then perform them at local talent shows. One word. Cloud 9! Fast forward nearly a couple decades and 100s of songs; and here I am. I have been trying to create songs that are unique to my experiences and myself using unfamiliar sounds. Shout out to God! Without you none of this would have been possible. Special mention goes to my Mum and Dad for their guidance, love and discipline. Special thanks to Shep, Colline and Nolu! Pillars! G-G-G the three of you have been a great support system. The local support has been brilliant and I am proud nothing on you was shot in my hometown. Last but not least Super S you know yourself.
