by Alex HendersonThough Pamala Stanley hasn't enjoyed much exposure on commercial radio, she has been a favorite in dance clubs since the disco era. After a string of club hits in the late 1970s and early to mid-'80s, Stanley put her singing career on the back burner to concentrate on motherhood. But even when she wasn't being recorded, the Dallas native's music was kept alive in clubs (especially gay and Latino establishments) thanks to enthusiastic deejays. Coming Out of Hiding, a collection of remixes released in 1990, is the closest thing available to a Stanley anthology. From the disco-era hit "This Is Hot" to '80s club smashes like the rock-influenced "If Looks Could Kill" (also recorded by Heart), "Coming Out of Hiding" (embraced in the mid-'90s by New York folk-rockers Her Sister), and "I Don't Want to Talk About It," all of her essential material is here. This is a CD that disco and dance music aficionados shouldn't miss.
