简介
Amy began her musical career in Connecticut, USA at age 15, when she gave up her classical piano lessons and taught herself how to play jazz by listening to records and learning chords from a guitar chord book. By the time she was 16, she had joined the Musicians' Union and was gigging around the area and giving piano lessons. Later on she moved to Boston, where she lived in a loft and held jam sessions with experimental musicians such as Sam Rivers, Bayard Lancaster, Keith Jarrett and Kent Carter. She also played in various duos and trios in the Boston area. In 1981 Amy moved to New York where she played in solo, duo and trio settings around the city. After a few years of this, she got the urge to form a larger group, so she put together a 10-piece band she dubbed Brass Tacks. Later on, when she moved to Rio de Janiero, she reformed the band with Brazilian musicians and recorded a CD, “My Joy,” which can also be found on CD Baby.
