The Macrocosmos project is a guitar and double bass duo. Both instrumentalists are rooted in jazz and improvised music and deeply interested in classical music. In search for material upon which to base their improvisations, the Mikrokosmos turned out to be a vast source of inspiration.

The short pieces can either be used as a head and tail, and a substracted chord sequence forms the body over which the solist can “blow”, a common form used in jazz music. Or an altogether different form of improvisation can be implemented on a given title of the Mikrokosmos. For instance, “In Lydian Mode” works perfectly as a vehicle for modal improvisation.
