简介

Featuring production on several songs by the inimitable Mike Musmanno (Lilys, Icarus Line), "Forever Debts" delivers on the promise of compelling, intelligent, and well-crafted songs noted by Pitchfork and CMJ on Paul Schneider's debut, "Escape Velocity". Reaching beyond the traditional pop singer/songwriter canon of influences (Elvis Costello, Elliot Smith), "Forever Debts" widens the vocabulary, sourcing inspiration from such disparate wells as Greg Kihn, The Stone Roses, Can, Chavez, Eno, and 20/20. Lyrically, "Forever Debts" deftly explores themes of money, debt, family, and work. All this over a bed of swirling, angular, and inventive hooks. A sophisticated and moving pop experience that is built to last. BIO Bio: 1970s: Born of unwed Jersey teen. Given to kind but temporarily seedless parents and carried to a McSuburbia in the Mojave desert. Raised by new super-hero sister on Bowie, the Clash and yellowed issues of Cream magazine. 1980s: Anesthetized on cocktails and speed by age 14, a disturbed sleep under the influence of the Cure, Husker Du, and Echo & the Bunnymen. 1990s: Broken and reformed at 21. Cocktails and freebase disappear and are replaced by Smiths obsession. Awoke from teenage dream to find self leaving the gates of an ivy laced college in New York City with no memory. Learn to play guitar and sing later than most. Played in clubs and wrote songs but mostly hid from the 90's NY Scene in temp jobs and girlfriends. 2000: Somehow picked up by Epic Records with Replacements/Jam influenced power-pop band, Rivington. Record with producer Ted Niceley (Fugazi, Shudder to Think). Major label fracas. Band dissolves. 2001: Solo. Befriend guitar wunderkind Oscar Rodriguez. Begin study with jazz composer, Bruce Arnold (past students include Lou Barlow) and avant classical composer, Edgar Grana (past students include Kip Winger). Some karmic surpluss from a past life (or dumb luck, still can't explain it) lands marriage to a lovely, lovely girl. 2003: Find tapes called "Escape Velocity" in a shoebox in a closet with some old photographs and release them as an album under the name Paul Schneider. Begin to receive responses from radio outlets and music writers who call the record a cross between Elvis Costello, Elliot Smith & Gram Parsons. Pitchfork & CMJ chime in. Tour the US & UK and a bit of Deutschland in between boughts of unemployment. Strangely receive a call from Gene Simmons about buying a song from the record for his solo album. Unfortunately, terms with the God of Thunder cannot be reached. 2005: Write and record a score to a movie called "Forever Debts" about a full-grown man who mortgages his life to the child's dream of rock n' roll. [ed. note: "Forever Debts" was recorded at the now defunct Jarvis Studio's in NYC and was mixed in part by super-producer Mike Musmanno (Lilys, Icarus Line, Earl Greyhound). Also present were guitar wiz Oscar Rodriguez and Sam Kassirer, keyboardist extraordinaire on loan from Josh Ritter's band. Dave Snyder and Liam Hurley provided power, skill, and taste on the drums. The album explores themes of debt, marriage and loss of self worth over a musical bed inspired by Chavez, Eno, and 20/20. Artwork for the album was designed by Sean McCabe whose brilliant covers have graced recent releases by Spoon, Interpol, Mates of State, and Asobi Seksu.] 2006: Fatherhood. Put away adult things and became a child.
