简介

For most of the 1970s The Dean Brothers were a local sensation in upstate New York. In 1977 two of the brothers, John and Berto Dean, approached singer-songwriter Linn Brown and asked her to join them to form a smaller group. They called themselves Stage Fright and performed in and near Ithaca, NY. They had an epic break up, then years later made up and even gave a reunion concert at The Rongovian Embassy in Trumansburg New York. Now in 2016, they are releasing a CD of songs recorded by Fred Ellert, at two performances in 1977 at The Night Court in Ithaca, New York. Stage Fright was unusual in that everyone played and sang. John was on electric and acoustic guitar, Berto on bass, and Linn on piano, all singing in beautiful three part harmony. Having no drummer wasn't an issue. The sound was strong and cohesive partly because Linn played rhythm piano; doubling the chords with the John's guitar and bass line with Berto's bass. Maybe the true essence of Stage Fright was their ability to put across their original songs. There are 17 songs on The Archives. Linn's songs are emotional and harmonically complex, although some, like 19 Year Old Girl, are straight up rockin' blues. Better Days is wistful and romantic. John's songs are true rock love songs with fresh chord progressions. Dixie, co-written by Bob Scarlata, has a Beatlesque feel that makes you tap your foot and sing along. Let It Go, with its rhythmic minor key riff could be an early Rolling Stones song. The 1970's may have been the quintessential decade for songwriting. Here on The Archives, you'll find original songs that are singable and memorable, performed by three great musicians.
