简介
While Audri Johnson’s quiet, kind demeanor may fool you, her voice combines attitude and soul with a unique contemporary gospel sound. Born and raised in Grenada, Mississippi, Audri grew up like many artists from the South, drawing her love of music from a pew in her local church. She is inspired by artists like Chris Brown, Jasmine Sullivan, Mali Music, Lecrae, and Kierra Sheard. Coming from a musical family, Audri has always had a love for music. At the age of eleven, she began creating her own music. As Audri grew older, she began to become more open-minded and started questioning some of the religious ideas that she had grown accustomed to. While she still works to center her music around her faith, the concepts behind her songs have been greatly affected by her experiences and changes in thought. Audri likes to describe herself as a church girl trying to get people to see who God is without a religious platform or mask. After high school, Audri attended Northwest Community College, where she studied nursing for two years. She began to feel complacent about her studies and wasn’t sure which direction her life was headed. After a lot of prayer, Audri decided that she wanted to pursue her interest in music. She enrolled in the entertainment industry studies program at Delta State University. After an impressive showcase performance, Audri was selected as the 2015-2016 artist for Fighting Okra Records. Since her signing, the A&R team of the label has produce her first album, the self-titled project, "Audri." They used Audri’s original songs to showcase her rapping and singing talent. When asked about her experience with Fighting Okra Records, Audri explains, “So far, it’s been pretty interesting. My first performance under the label was the first performance I've ever done that was outside of a church gathering. They’re definitely giving me different and unique opportunities that other artists aren’t fortunate enough to have. Audri’s versatility and talent are sure to lead her to success under the label, and she is hopeful that she will be granted even more opportunities while studying at the Delta Music Institute.
