Description: TIME ON MY HANDS CD Pianist/composer Kent Hewitt lives in a maritime village in southeastern Connecticut, and performs throughout New England and New York. Kent Hewitt’s Time on my Hands album follows his tribute recording to his hometown, Little Town by the Sea, released in 2005. Kent is featured on Steinway piano in a jazz trio setting performing standards from the great American songbook. Here is a pleasing repertoire of swinging jazz classics, sentimental ballads, and lyrical Latin interpretations. ARTIST STATEMENT I have long anticipated the opportunity to record a unique collection of eloquent jazz standards with a jazz trio. This collaboration with drummer Matt Gordy and bassist Peter Kontrimas is a special privilege, much enhanced by the expertise of engineer/producer Norman Johnson. His studio, Manor Recordings, complemented with a beautiful antique Steinway piano is an ideal setting for recording. Featured in this album are great songs by some of my favorite composers: Vincent Youmans, Cole Porter, Johnny Mandel, Jimmy Van Heusen, Rodgers and Hart, Herbie Hancock, Denny Zeitlin, Michel Legrand, and lyricists Johnny Mercer, and Alan and Marilyn Bergman. My experience as an accompanist to vocalist Pat Mitchell has given me a greater appreciation for lyrics and melodies of great American standards. This has inspired these instrumental interpretations and versions of poignant ballads: I Could Have Told You, Once Upon A Summertime, and Where Do You Start?
