The March: One of the most pivotal moments in the American civil rights movement occurred on August 28, 1963 with the March on Washington for Freedom and Jobs. It was there that Dr Martin Luther King Jr delivered his eternally potent “I have a dream” speech. 'The March' is a feature documentary by John Akomfrah commemorating the 50th anniversary of this historic event. The story is told by the people who organised and participated in it, and includes interviews with some of the key actors: members of organisational groups such as Jack O'Dell; Hollywood supporters including Harry Belafonte and Sidney Poitier; Performing artists at the March such as Joan Baez; the CBS broadcaster who reported from it, Roger Mudd; as well as those who witnessed the March on TV and were influenced by it, including Oprah Winfrey who was only 8 years old when the March took place. Tandis Jenhudson: Tandis Jenhudson is a British composer, songwriter and music producer, particularly known for his film soundtracks and his work across multiple genres. Although he initially trained as a classical pianist, he went on to study Medicine at University College London and worked as a doctor in the NHS. A chance encounter at UCL led to him scoring his first film and he has since gone on to score numerous award-winning films including the BAFTA-nominated 'Love You, Joseff Hughes'. 'THE MARCH' marks his first collaboration with John Akomfrah. John Akomfrah, OBE John Akomfrah is a British artist, writer, film director, screenwriter and theorist. He made his debut with 'Handsworth Songs' which examined the fallout from the Handsworth Riots and went on to win the Grierson Award for Best Documentary in 1987. He is best known as one of the founders of the Black Audio Film Collective which was active between 1982 and 1998 and which was dedicated towards examining issues of Black British identity through film and media. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2008 for his services to the film industry.
