The guru is auspiciousness Embodiment of truth, knowledge, bliss Salutations to the one who is beyond the worlds, Peaceful, independent and radiant Shantaya has been dedicated to the art of music since the age of seven and has evolved into a tranquil practitioner of Bhakti Yoga. Through her music, she reflects the peace which she has cultivated during a life of study, practice, performing and teaching. In Sanskrit, the name Shantaya is a verb meaning to calm others; her ability to transfer tranquility and shanti (peace) to others through music is a gift. She is the transfer of tranquility to others. Born in Germany, Jenny Bonejaʼs natural talent was recognized by her father who encouraged her to study voice and piano and perform in public. By the age of twelve she was performing on stage and was well on her way to developing a rich and dynamic voice. She studied with the teachers of the Otto - Friedrich - University where she received excelled training voice, rhythm and music theory. She followed this with 3 years of intensive piano lessons with a noted teacher in Ansbach, Germany. She was the lead singer in a rock- n-roll band called JB and the Heat singing songs from the 60ʼs. In 2009, she became the lead singer in a Rhythm and Blues band called Jenny Boneja and the Ballroomshakers. This group became very popular in Germany, playing for large crowds throughout the country and recording an album of songs from the 40ʼs. She was blessed to sing and record in these bands with talented musicians who beautifully complemented her powerful voice. In 2012, Jenny Boneja was recognized by the German Music Awards with a nomination as the Best Female Vocalist. More recently, Shantaya has directed her considerable talents to performing and recording Healing Mantra - age old chants that empower people to heal their own emotional and physical injuries. With support from her teachers and mentors Shantaya has recorded her first CD of Healing Mantras and it will be released in the near future. Girish, who is one of the most popular and solid singers in this genre, contributed music used in two of Shantayaʼs songs. " Mantras have the power to connect us to God and create a bridge of healing energy." Ravi Shankar was a master of classical Indian music. He said: “Our tradition teaches us that sound is God. Music is a spiritual discipline that raises oneʼs inner being to divine peacefulness and bliss. ............ Through music, one can reach God.” In September 2014 Shantaya traveled through the southeastern United States on her Healing Mantra Tour performing at several locations in four states. After Shantayaʼs program at Neighborhood Yoga in Boone, NC the owner, Valerie Midgett, said: "I just came down from the studio after Kirtan with Shantaya. You are in for such a treat. ........ Her voice is so pure and her music just beautiful. ....." After studying and practicing yoga for over a decade, Shantaya lived at Ammaʼs Amritapuri Ashram in Kerala, India for a few month and she lived for a several years in Germany and toured with her Rhythm and Blues Band all over the country. But she wanted to experience more than that, she was on her spiritual journey for “ Who am I without all that?” and decided to moved in January 2013 to New Orleans where she attended and completed a yoga teacher training with Sean Johnsonʼs and Mitchel Bleier Soul School. " Sean said of Shantaya: “She is a gifted teacher and musician who left a successful career as lead singer of a popular band in Germany, to dedicate herself to guiding and inspiring others through yoga and music.” Shantaya inspires people with her voice, her devotion and even her presence. Without conscious effort, she transmits calm to others in formal and casual encounters. Whether performing in a kirtan or talking with a stranger in a coffee shop or teaching voice lessons, she opens her heart with song and her shakti fills the room.
